Creative summer camp begins!

Updated: Jul 26

Today the young women of Lafon took a step toward independence through creative self-expression. It was the first day of classes for our creative summer camp!

The subject of today's class was handbag making. The students were introduced to a variety of materials, patterns and designs, and got to participate with hands-on demonstrations.

We are so happy to see their faces light up each time they learn a new thing. This is truly self-directed learning because the subject was chosen by the community of young women we serve. They see the value in this education, how what they learn today will benefit them tomorrow, which keeps them incredibly engaged throughout the lessons.

These girls are building on previous courses we've taught in sewing and fashion design to improve their ability to create handbags and other accessories for sale on the local market. We even hope to be able to ship some of their best items to the USA for sale in an online shop. We invite you to stay tuned for this exciting development in the life of our Women's Center, and please consider supporting our ongoing work by donating to Cultural Capital Haiti!
